When I connect via RDP to a box with Windows ThinPC installed my guest machine ends up "crashing", this is the only thing given in Event Viewer before the box reboots.

Code:

Comment: The system process 'C:\Windows\system32\lsass.exe' terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819.  The system will now shut down and restart.
Any ideas?

Windows 10 VM - Fool the OS into thinking it's on Physical HW?

$

As many of you already know, since Windows 8, Microsoft has made the OS virtual-aware, meaning the OS "knows" if it's running as a virtual machine.

I have several Windows 10 Virtual Machines installed in VirtualBox and in VMware.

I've tried every trick in the book, and still cannot fool Win10 to "think" it's running on Physical hardware.
I've played with the virtual machines files, adjusted registry settings...and still nothing.

Microsoft made it very hard indeed to break it's virtual-awareness.
Anyone care to try and see if this is possible?

Hi there good people,

I'll jump straight to it. I am trying to install this on my Lenovo G510 laptop :

Quote:

Microsoft Windows 10 AIO 30in1 Build 14393.67 x32 x64 en-US
(d/l from torrent )

Right now my system is running this :
Quote:

Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1 (Build 7600) 64 bit
It is authenticated but not validated. And updates are off.

Boot mode can be set to UEFI and i have the thumb rufused and ready. My Data is backed up as well.

I would prefer doing a clean install. My questions are these :

a. Am i missing something in the preparation ?

b. How do i authenticate and validate this install on my laptop for future updates ?

c. Is there a step by step how to for ppl such as myself, here ?

d. If anything goes wrong, can i roll back to my existing OS and try again ?

The questions might seem basic, but I guess not asking them wouldve been even stupider.

Thanks in advance for any help you'd be able to offer.

P.S : edited Speccy output attached for closer look, if needed.

I used Jetstream to benchmark these 19 browsers(originally 20 but Polarity went full retard). I disabled any other service that may connect to the internet, so you may consider this as a good setup to benchmark a browser.

File-Access-Permissions || Can't properly access / execute Files after I moved them

File-Access-Permissions |^^| Can't properly access / execute Files after I moved them to an USB-Flash-Drive or external HDD.

When I copy / move files to an USB-Flash-Drive or external HDD, than I have no longer permissions to access the files, but if I copy / move the files afterwards back to an internal HDD / SDD, then I'm able to access them normally.

I tried pretty much everything, but can't get it to work.

It seems only to effect Drives which are connected via USB and PDF-Files seem to be not effected, at least not the few I tried.

Already existing files on the external HDD's seem to be accessible just fine, but I only could test photos, videos and mp3's.

Is there a way to fix it ?

Linux flaw puts Android users at risk

$

Your smartphone is at risk of spying attacks if it's running Android 4.4 KitKat or above

Up to 80% of Android smartphones are susceptible to a recently-discovered Linux exploit that allows attackers to intercept unencrypted web traffic and spy on users, according to mobile security firm Lookout. The flaw leaves Android devices running software version 4.4 KitKat and above vulnerable to hijacking attacks.

Last week, security researchers discovered a vulnerability in the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) used by Linux that allows an attacker to remotely spy on people using unencrypted connections using just an IP address.
The vulnerability affects the Linux Kernel 3.6, which was introduced to Android smartphones during the update to Android version 4.4 KitKat, all the way up to the latest version. Lookout estimates that this equates to approximately 1.4bn devices, or 79.9 percent of the Android ecosystem.
The vulnerability is classified as CVE-2016-5696, which means it is of medium severity. According to Lookout, enterprises running mobility programmes are particularly at risk, and are advised to check if any of their communications services are unencrypted. If so, it could be possible for hijackers to access and manipulate sensitive information including corporate emails, files and documents.

In order to patch the vulnerability, Android devices need to have their Linux kernel updated. However, Lookout claims that the kernel is yet to be patched in the latest developer preview of Android 7.0 Nougat.
There are steps users can take to safeguard themselves in the meantime, the most basic of which is ensuring all the websites and apps you use are encrypted and use HTTPS with TLS. You can also use a VPN as an added layer of protection.

Windows 10 License Question

$

So I had a laptop with a Windows 10 Pro license, now I ordered a new laptop without a Windows 10 key

Mind you, I have previously logged into my Microsoft Account in the old laptop just to have my key registered to my account but the question is, now when I get the new laptop and install Windows 10 using that same key, how do I go about activation? Will I need to call Microsoft (phone activation) or would I need to login with my Microsoft Account to activate it on the new laptop?

What's the best way to go about this?

I won't be using the key on the old laptop

[NEWS] Monthly Rollup Updates

$

Quote:

From October 2016 onwards, Windows will release a single Monthly Rollup that addresses both security issues and reliability issues in a single update. The Monthly Rollup will be published to Windows Update (WU), WSUS, SCCM, and the Microsoft Update Catalog. Each month’s rollup will supersede the previous month’s rollup, so there will always be only one update required for your Windows PCs to get current. i.e. a Monthly Rollup in October 2016 will include all updates for October, while November 2016 will include October and November updates, and so on. Devices that have this rollup installed from Windows Update or WSUS will utilize express packages, keeping the monthly download size small.

Over time, Windows will also proactively add patches to the Monthly Rollup that have been released in the past. Our goal is eventually to include all of the patches we have shipped in the past since the last baseline, so that the Monthly Rollup becomes fully cumulative and you need only to install the latest single rollup to be up to date. We encourage you to move to the Monthly Rollup model to improve reliability and quality of updating all versions of Windows.

We are planning to add these previously shipped patches over the next year and will document each addition so IT admins know which KBs have been included each month.

Windows 10 license issue after mobo replacement

$

Hi folks,

I'm requesting help here, since I had words with Microsoft yesterday and I no longer wanna have Microsoft morons at phone ... ;)

Here's the full story. We have a colleague who has an HP laptop running W7 Enterprise. In order he can have W10 when we give him his computer when decommissioned next year, I installed W7 pro on a spare HDD (SLIC 2.1 activation, i.e. cert & HP pro key, but has a W7 pro sticker anyway), upgraded to W10 prior july 29th. Reinstalled W10 (1511), everything went smoothly, W10 activated.

No luck. Mobo failed 2 weeks ago (video failure). Since laptop is under warranty, HP replaced mobo, tagged new one with same serial (seems obvious), and reused processor, wireless card, RAM, DVD burner. So, same computer with a different mobo, same serial.

When testing W10 activation, I got error message : licence is already used on another computer. No worries, this is a normal behaviour after replacing mobo. No worries, I'm gonna call Microsoft, they will reset licence for that laptop. What an error ...

When guy asked key, I told him OEM key (since it was activated that way), then he told me that key was blocked (yes, this is an OEM key). When I told him that it was an OEM key, he seemed not to know what means OEM activation, that I have an hacked licence, and so on. I prefered hang off, telling him he was useless and should learn first what means an OEM activation (he even asked me to prove that licence was used only once, and was upset when I told him that all HP computers running W7 pro in the world has same license key ).

So, do you have an idea on how to get W10 genuine on that computer? Sure, mobo was replaced, but it is still same computer.

Such a shame that Microsoft hires such morons, such a shame that is much more easier to find a working licence key on the web than to reset an activation of a computer that failed. That kind of things that makes you prefer Apple over Microsoft, that makes you prefer W7 over W10, that encourages piracy (yes, I'm upset!). Of course, computer is running now W7 enterprise, and runs fine on W7.

Thanks for your help on that topic (and for taking time to read that loooong post )
